The Challenge
The City of Concord was preparing to launch TextMyGov, a text messaging platform designed to help residents receive city alerts, find information, and report issues directly from their phones.
The City received several implementation materials from TextMyGov, including:
- Website widget code
- Promotional flyers
- A press release
- Opt-in and opt-out requirements
- Resident texting instructions
- Keyword information
- Terms and privacy requirements
The information was there—but it was spread across multiple documents and formats.
BramJam’s job was to turn those materials into a clear, easy-to-use webpage that residents could understand quickly while also meeting the City’s website standards.
There was another important consideration: some of the promotional materials supplied for the rollout were designed as flyers rather than accessible web content. Simply uploading the files would not provide the best experience for every resident.
The BramJam Approach
Instead of treating the project as a basic widget installation, BramJam approached the TextMyGov rollout as a complete resident communication experience.
Clear Paths for Residents
The page was organized around the three primary actions residents may want to take:
Sign Up for City Alerts
Residents can quickly learn how to subscribe to City of Concord notifications by texting
CONCORD to 91896.
Text the City
Residents can learn how to text
Hi to 762-247-5241 to access information or report issues.
View Available Keywords
Residents have direct access to the City’s TextMyGov keyword list for commonly requested information and services.
This structure transformed several pages of instructions into simple, task-based options.
Accessibility-Focused Content
Rather than relying solely on promotional flyers, BramJam recreated the essential information as readable website content.
That allowed important instructions to be:
- Available as actual webpage text
- Easier to navigate on mobile devices
- More accessible to users relying on assistive technology
- Searchable by search engines
- Easier for the City to update in the future
The original flyers were still made available as supporting promotional materials without making them the only way residents could access the information.
TextMyGov Widget Integration
BramJam also integrated the TextMyGov website widget and tested it before launch.
During implementation, the floating widget created a potential conflict with the City's existing Pay Online link in the lower portion of the website.
Rather than removing payment access, BramJam repositioned the Pay Online link within the footer so residents could continue to access it easily without interference from the TextMyGov widget.
That small adjustment preserved an important resident service while allowing the new tool to function as intended.
Bringing Everything Together
The completed TextMyGov page included:
- Resident alert registration instructions
- Text-the-City instructions
- City-specific keyword access
- Promotional materials
- TextMyGov terms and privacy information
- Opt-out instructions
- The City’s official TextMyGov announcement
- Embedded TextMyGov website functionality
- Mobile-friendly and accessible webpage content
The final result was a single resource where residents could understand the service without having to interpret several separate documents.
RESULTS & IMPACT
The completed page received immediate praise from both the City of Concord and TextMyGov.
Feedback from the City of Concord
City Clerk Anita Neath wrote:
“Jamie! You are amazing! The page looks WONDERFUL!!! And the turnaround time is AWESOME!!!”
Her response reflected both the quality of the completed page and BramJam’s ability to move the project from implementation materials to a finished public resource quickly.
Feedback from TextMyGov
After reviewing the completed page, Stephen Budge, Client Relations Specialist with TextMyGov, sent the City this feedback:
“I just pulled up your TextMyGov page and I am really impressed.”
He specifically praised the page for its:
- Clear wording
- Formatting
- Custom flyer links
- Compliance
Most significantly, he added:
“This would be a good example for other cities to see.”
For BramJam, that feedback carried special weight. The recognition came not only from the municipal client, but from the company whose technology was being implemented.
Why This Project Matters
Municipal websites have to do more than look good.
Residents need to be able to find information quickly. New technology has to integrate cleanly with existing services. Accessibility requirements have to be considered. Vendor materials need to be translated into language that makes sense to the public.
The City of Concord TextMyGov project demonstrates BramJam’s approach to government websites:
We do not simply add content to a page. We consider how residents will actually use it.
That means organizing information clearly, anticipating potential problems, maintaining accessibility, protecting existing services, and coordinating with outside technology providers when necessary.
The Outcome
The City of Concord successfully completed its TextMyGov website implementation ahead of the required widget deadline and prepared for its September 1, 2026 public launch.
More importantly, the City received a resident-facing resource that its software provider described as an example worthy of showing other municipalities.
